“The Sky Looms.” Utility Research Gardens, 638 Tillery St.
Last year, Nancy Mims used the wondrous green space of the Utility Research Gardens for a singular installation of her enormous photographs printed on cloth. For “The Sky Looms,” Mims again uses large swaths of fabric on which she prints her poetic images of the sky — images that she captures on her daily neighborhood walks. Cutting her fabric photographs apart and then weaving them back together, Mims quixotically attempts to assemble and organize the infinite expanse of the sky, using the verdant and manicured gardens and greenhouses as a backdrop.--Jeanne Claire van Ryzin
